16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. The campaign runs annually and has been commemorated on campus for many years. VIUSU, VIU, and VIUFA are bringing attention to these issues by organizing this series of events. Mon. Nov 25: Clothesline Project / 11:30-1:30
This is the first day of action in part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. The clothesline project is meant to remind people to reflect on the phenomenon of violence against women in our society. Clothesline will be set up in front of the main cafeteria.

Fri. Nov 29: Self-Defence Seminar with CJ Martial Arts and Fitness / 2-3pm
An introductory seminar in basic self-defence strategies by CJ Martial Arts. Please wear comfortable gym attire. This self-defence seminar will cover how to deter an attacker, how to keep distance and strongest stance, and much more.

Tues. Dec 3: Kindling Connection – Campfire in the Quad / 11:45-1:45pm
Come by the quad to unwind and enjoy a campfire, marshmallows, and hot chocolate! Join in the conversation around the fire with your student wellness promotors who will be leading some interesting discussions on a variety of topics, including 16 days of activism. Find us outside the library in the quad for this all ages free event hosted in collaboration with VIU and your VIU Students’ Union.

The VIUSU Women’s Collective is holding it’s 2nd “Chill n’ Quill” social event on Friday Dec. 6 in coordination with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. This will provide a space for like minded people to create art inspired by activism with calligraphy and watercolours being the main forms of expression.
