We are ReCreate, an Indian NGO addressing the issue of Gender-Based Violence and offering Sustainable Empowerment and Creativity in India.
With the support of The Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai, we take great pleasure in announcing our debut campaign with the program “Empowerment Self Defense.” This is a program designed by the international NGO, No Means No Worldwide and which ReCreate, has adapted to the Indian Context.
Empowerment Self Defense is a safety and gender equity program for girls, boys and all genders including the third gender. The focus of this workshop is to help empower the beneficiaries to speak up and to take action when someone is trying or planning to harm them. By the end of this class, the beneficiaries will have multiple new strategies to react when danger or conflict arises and to get safe in any situation of assault.
Empowerment Self Defense is whatever we say, do or believe that helps us to stay safe. The priority is to use our voice, tone and body language, and keep a physical response as the last resort.
Research suggests that up to 85% of attacks could be stopped just by using our voices effectively. ESD emphasizes using your voice to end conflicts.
Date & Location: We will start with a series of workshops of 120 minutes on 25th November, 2020, which is the first day of the UN Campaign of Ending Violence against women. These workshops will be delivered either online (on platforms like Zoom or Google Meet) or physically in our premises in Andheri, Mumbai or alternatively on request, in your premises (only in Mumbai).
Fee: They are totally free of cost and primarily target Indian NGOs dealing with women who are facing violence, harassment, and trafficking, or women’s empowerment, or with the LGBTQI community, transgender rights, etc.
Language of instruction: This program (2 sessions of 1 hour each) can be conducted in either Hindi or English.
Number of participants: A minimum number of 7 and a maximum of 10 persons per workshop. This encourages each participant to practice actively in order to modify behaviors, clarify myths and clear misconceptions. The same NGO can request multiple workshops.
