For the 29th edition of the UN International Campaign against Women Violence, Open Dialogue Cafe, a project of InterMediaKT, is hosting a webinar on Gender Based Violence (GBV) in order to raise awareness.
The main objective of the webinar is to make YOU reflect on the roots of this problem and how our unconscious biases can lead to discrimination, which is the first step towards violence. Women are constantly exposed to an unequal society, this is shown in the mainstream media, at work, in the streets and in family dynamics. This normalised discrimination makes survivors of GBV more afraid to speak up and stand up for their rights.
One in three women worldwide experience physical or sexual violence mostly by an intimate partner. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, emerging data and reports from those on the front lines, have shown that all types of violence against women, particularly domestic violence, have intensified.
The webinar will first explore the problem of Gender Based Violence with Elena Debonis, an expert in this specific field. Then, several interactive activities will be held to gain a better understanding of gender stereotypes and unconscious biases.
Finally, not only this event aims to depict this current issue, but also it focuses on highlighting possible solutions. Thus, numbers for helplines and websites to denounce this human right violation will be given to the participants.
