Resist Sexual Oppression – Protest march at night

The Committee to Observe the International Day of Protest Against Violence Against Women has been organising protest activities to mark the day since 1997. 39 organisations have come together under this banner which include gender diverse groups, sex workers organisations, garment workers, youth organisations, organisations of women with disabilities, etc and have adopted Resist Sexual Oppression as the theme for this year. In Dhaka we will march from the Naripokkho office in Dhanmondi to the Parliament carrying banners, placards and torches. The march will stop at different points where a group of women will carry out a display of a traditional martial arts using bamboos with beating drums.
On this day there will be protest events in another 62 out of total 64 districts in Bangladesh organised by 485 women’s organisations, youth organisations and other NGOs. A declaration will be read out in front of the Parliament drawing attention to the epidemic of sexual oppression and listing our demands to the government and parliament as well as what is to be done by the women’s movement.
