For the second year in a row, Barbara Alusala, Hanān Jeppie and Kayla Alfonso are hosting a webinar to raise awareness on the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, with the headline theme of, ‘End Violence Against Women and Girls: The impact of feminism in third world countries and its presence physically, structurally and psychologically.’
We have chosen this angle in hopes of stimulating conversations around the multidimensional nature of gender inequality and how it consequently demands intersectional feminist solutions to truly address the challenges we face in today’s society.
We start off with a flash back in time, looking at the origins of gender inequality from an African perspective before getting an inside look at the process of working with gender-based violence victims (both legally and from a counselling perspective) and finally looking at the policies we have in place and how we can improve them. You will definitely learn something new and take a few conversation starters home.
This year’s speakers include:
Ronel Koekemoer – Counselling Co-ordinator at Rape Crisis Centre
Prof Christopher Isike – African Politics and Gender Studies at the University of Pretoria
Dr Mumta Hargovan – Public Health at the University of Cape Town
Rethabile Mosese – Co-Acting Executive Director at Lawyers Against Abuse
