The concluding observations on the combined seventh and eighth periodic reports of Honduras shed light on the underrepresentation of disadvantaged and marginalized women (e.g. rural and peasant farmer communities) in political and public life. Common repercussions for public and political participation include repression, violence, and discrimination. The Committee recommends that the State Party expedite adopting the bill on political violence against women, enforce gender equality laws in political and public life, and raise awareness on the vital importance of women’s right to participate in decision-making.
