Report of the Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, its Causes and Consequences: Mission to Honduras

The report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, discusses the difficulty for women in the Honduras to obtain land-ownership deeds and ownership rights. This dynamic only increases the authority of male family members and subsequently augments women’s susceptibility to violence. The report also illustrates the danger in women’s involvement in social activism, as Margarita Murillo’s role in defending farmers’ rights is believed to have led to her 2014 assassination.
