Report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences on violence against women in politics

6 August 2018

The report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women concludes that gender-based violence in the political sphere poses a serious violation of women’s human rights and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, under which women are expressed to having the right to participate in public and political life. The Special Rapporteur recommends States, political parties, and international organizations taking collective action in countering gender-based political violence. States are recommended to implement legislation and complaint procedures and monitor data of violence against women so patterns can be deduced.
