Report of the Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, its Causes and Consequences

The report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, notes that women in Bangladesh are a minority in the formal labor force at approximately 36% while they compose a high number of unpaid workers in the public and private spheres. Though the 2006 Labor Act was made to protect workers’ rights, several categories of work are excluded, including agricultural work, to the detriment of farmworkers’ livelihood.
