Global Dialogue on Ending Gender-Based Discrimination and Violence in the World of Work

The Global Dialogue provides women the ability to highlight their experiences in the world of work and amplify the demand for the speedy ratification and national implementation of the newly adopted International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention 190. This new convention establishes a set of global minimum standards to address violence and harassment in the world of work and its ratification by governments, followed by its implementation, is a crucial step for ensuring the human rights of women workers worldwide.

The Global Dialogue is being organized in partnership with allies from the labor and women’s rights and human rights movements and represents a collaborative effort to achieve substantive equality for women in the world of work. It is particularly relevant this year as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

The event will bring together women workers, representatives of governments, employers, unions and civil society organizations, and human rights experts from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa, North America, and the Pacific.

The Global Dialogue will build primarily on the following inputs:
 Testimonies of women workers; leading examples of promising laws, policies and practices by governments, employers, and unions that demonstrate how gender-based discrimination and violence in the world of work is currently being addressed;
 Opinions by legal experts on the human rights implications of the issues that are raised and the obligations of governments and private actors, including employers; and,
 Interventions by technical experts on labor, human rights, economic policy as well as other dimensions of gender-based discrimination and violence in the world of work, with recommendations for implementing the new standards.

The Lead Partners for the Global Dialogue include International Labor Rights Forum (ILRF), International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) and International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).

The Co-sponsors for the event include ESCR-Net, Public Services International (PSI), ActionAid International, Breakthrough India, Care International, Akina Mama wa Afrika, Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD), Global Network of Sex Work Projects (NSWP), Women Enabled International, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Solidarity Center, Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN) and International Women’s Rights Action Watch Asia Pacific (IWRAW Asia Pacific).
