Global 16 Days Campaign at the Center for Women’s Global Leadership Hosts Twitter Chat with CARE International

The theme for the 2019 Global 16 Days Campaign is ending Gender-Based Violence in the World of Work. With the historic adoption of the International Labour Organization (ILO) instrument – Violence and Harassment Convention 190 (along with Violence and Harassment Recommendation 206) on June 21, 2019, a key goal of this year’s Campaign is to influence a wave of ratifications for this new instrument. The newly adopted legally-binding Convention establishes global standards to end gender-based violence and harassment in the world of work.

Our panel of experts from CARE International and the Global 16 Days Campaign at CWGL invited ideas and suggestions from individuals, women’s rights organizations and other stakeholders on actions and solutions to end and address gender-based violence in the world of work.

The five key questions we focused on are as follows:

Q1: What are the factors that make women especially vulnerable to violence and harassment at work?

Q2: What difference will ratification of ILO Convention 190 by national governments bring about for women workers?

Q3: What are some of the examples of effective ways to address workplace sexual harassment?

Q4: What does the Convention mean for companies? What are the concrete steps companies can be expected to take?

Q5: How can we ensure women’s voices are heard and that all the right stakeholders are consulted?

The Twitter Wall below is a compilation of the dialogue we held on December 4 on Twitter, answering key questions and looking to the future of a world of work free from GBV, together.
